NFI has always been at the forefront of institutions engaged in the task of capacity building at all levels,ranging from policy makers, programme officers, professionals and para-professionals,undergraduate and postgraduate students, educational institutions, and the community itself. In addition to lectures to update the knowledge on nutritional components of RCH programme, NFI staff undertakes practical demonstration of techniques used for assessment of nutritional status and quality control measures to be used to ensure accuracy in measurement of parameters used for assessment of nutritional status. NFI also provides nutrition training for medical post graduates MD (community medicine, MD Community Health Administration from NIHFW,NICD) and MPH (from NCDC, New-Delhi). NFI participates in nutrition component of training under the RCH and NRHM Training Programme for medical college faculty and district RCH officers being carried out by the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi and Public Health Foundation of India, New Delhi. In addition to lectures to update the personnel in knowledge on nutritional components of the RCH programme, NFI staff members provide practical demonstrations of techniques used for the assessment of nutritional status, and quality control measures to be used to ensure accuracy in measuring parameters used for assessment of nutritional status. The Foundation is also a hub for summer internships of MSc (Home Science) students from various parts of the country. The interns are given orientation lectures on public health nutrition, clinical nutrition, parenteral and enteral nutrition. Orientation lectures are given to assist the students in the planning their MSc dissertation, drafting research proposals, study design, sampling techniques, drawing up of proformae for data collection, quality control measures to be followed during data collection, data analysis, interpretation of results, and report writing. At the other end of the spectrum NFI carries out orientation training on nutrition screening, detection of growth faltering and under nutrition and micronutrient deficiencies for the ANMS, ASHA and Anganwadi workers and supervisors .
